Jacob was a student in the Grossmont Union High School District who exited in June 2024. He received an iPad with an augmentative communication app from Transitioning with Technology. Jacob loved being with his peers at school and doing volunteer work cleaning churches. As an elementary school student, Jacob began communicating using an app on an iPad because he is unable to speak to tell others what he needs. He continued to communicate at home and at school using his device to obtain food items and to relate places he wanted to go. He currently attends an adult day program where he exercises, goes into the community, hangs out with friends and enjoys music. Jacob takes his iPad to this program to be able to communicate with everyone there as well as with his family at home.

Trenton attended schools in the Grossmont Union High School District during the years of September 2011 to June 2019. During that time, Trenton learned how to use an iPad with the app Proloquo2go to communicate with others. Upon exiting the school system, Transitioning with Technology awarded Trenton a Daeesy Mount and holder for his iPad to be mounted to his wheelchair. This allows Trenton to have access to communication anytime he is in his wheelchair. Trenton is currently attending a community based program called Options for All.
According to his family, Trenton’s communication skills have dramatically improved since his departure from the school district. He initiates more interaction with others, responds appropriately to inquiries, FaceTimes with family and friends, surfs the internet, watches YouTube videos and The Weather Channel, and also uses the calendar. He is even putting together full sentences on the iPad to express to others! He is also able to communicate with his MTS drivers, and frequents places such as public libraries, Santee Trolley Square, Salvation Army, San Diego State University, and bowling alleys. He also dances in Alpine once a week, which he really loves. His father states, “The iPad / Daeesy Mount / Proloquo2go is his connection to the world. He is able to effectively and efficiently communicate with family, coaches and peers, providing satisfaction and joy while at home and in community. We are learning more each day of his intelligence and awareness which makes us extremely happy.”
